Apple 3G iPod shuffle

The new iPod shuffle is nearly half the size of the previous generation, but with 4GB of storage, it now holds up to 1,000 songs. Plus, iPod shuffle now talks to you! VoiceOver is the feature that gives iPod shuffle a voice. With the press of a button, it tells you what song is playing, whos performing it, and can even tell you the names of your play lists.

Get Well Soon, Mr. Steve Jobs

There has been long standing speculation about the health of Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Throughout 2008 his weight loss was apparent and various rumors swirled about possible serious illnesses. The cancer card was thrown into the mix, Jobs’ announced he wouldn’t make the Keynote speech at MacWorld and grumblings of “death bed” were seen around the interwebz.

Today, Steve Jobs addressed the concerns, accusations, rumors and everything else regarding his health and we’ve posted his letter to the Apple Community below:

Dear Apple Community,

For the first time in a decade, I’m getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.

Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.

I’ve decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow.

As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.

Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause — a hormone imbalance that has been “robbing” me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis.

The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I’ve already begun treatment. But, just like I didn’t lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple’s CEO during my recovery.

I have given more than my all to Apple for the past 11 years now. I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple’s CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for Apple first.

So now I’ve said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this.

Steve

Apple offers Black Friday price cuts

Apple Inc's much-anticipated Black Friday event offered consumers discounts on Mac computers, iPods and accessories at levels similar to years past, despite speculation about deeper price cuts.

Apple, a company renown for its marketing prowess, had stoked consumer excitement by announcing a one-day Black Friday "shopping event," without giving any further details.

The company cut prices by roughly 5 to 10 percent on certain items. A 13-inch MacBook was being offered for $1,200, a discount of $100, while an iPod touch was being sold for $378, a discount of $21. The iPhone, which has been hugely popular since its launch last summer, was not on sale.

Apple products are generally more expensive than those ofcompetitors, and the company does not cut prices very often. However, with consumer spending a huge question mark this holiday season, many retailers desperate to lure shoppers are offering steep discounts.

Apple Creating a search engine ?

TechCrunch is reporting today that it has heard some rumblings about the possibility of Apple developing a search engine to compete with Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft. According to the publication, it believes that Apple's reason for doing so is its desire to find another avenue of monetization for all the traffic it can capture through its Safari browser and elsewhere across the Web.

But after some digging, TechCrunch found that the chances of Apple working on a search engine in secret right now are relatively low and the Silicon Valley has heard little about the possibility of Apple turning to another sector in the industry.

I don't think there's any debating that the rumors are false and the very idea that Apple will develop a search engine sounds ridiculous. Apple's current strategy is tied to its hardware and there's no reason for the company to jump into another market.
